I stood on my tiny balcony overlooking Washington, D.C.
My hands shook. I stared down at my phone clutched in my right hand. The thought about what I was about to do was terrifying. But my life couldn’t get much worse. I had left my corporate marketing job a few months earlier and was struggling to find clients. I had no idea how to position myself. Everything I tried felt false and contrived. I felt like a failure.
I had no job, no clients, nothing holding me back. If there is a right time for anything, I thought to myself, it’s right now.
I had been hiding inside myself for 13 years, sleepwalking through my life. On that day in October 2017, I made the decision to wake up. I took the first and most important step towards reclaiming my identity, which you can read about here.
